Eclectic Book Haul
I'm so excited with the books I've acquired recently that I felt the need to share them here - I bought a few, was lovingly gifted a few and one was sent to me by the author.
Here are the details of my new bookish treats:
Secrets at the Beach House by Diane Chamberlain
I've always loved this author, and this novel - originally named Public Relations - is a story about love and friendship set in a mansion on the seafront. It's re-release includes an epilogue set 25 years later, and my mum was kind enough to buy me a copy.
Snap by Belinda Bauer
(Penguin Random House)
This is a thriller about a mother who leaves her children in a car … will she return? It's a Sunday Times bestseller and made the Man Booker longlist. I was beyond excited to receive this, and can't wait to read it.
Milkman by Anna Burns
(Faber and Faber)
Another Man Booker choice - the winner, as it turned out - written from the perspective of a teenage girl living in Northern Ireland.
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt
(Hodder and Stoughton)
I recently discovered Foyles bookshop, and this was one of the books I found whilst browsing. There's a witch, a creepy cover image and a blurb from Stephen King. Need I say more?
Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
(Hodder and Stoughton)
There are two buzz words that might guarantee my interest in a book - a bookshop setting, and an 'epistolary' format (a novel written in documents or letters) This one has both of these things, so I was sold.
Aftermath by Kelley Armstrong
This was a book I'd never heard of before I saw it in a local bookshop, but the premise was hauntingly gripping. It's a YA thriller set in the aftermath of a high school shooting incident. It sounds dark, intriguing and complex.
Reckless Beginnings by Tina Hogan Grant
This book was kindly sent to me by the author after I had recently reviewed an ARC for the release. It's a story about family, adventure and addiction. It has some dark characters, and fast moving plotlines and I'm very grateful to now have a signed paperback copy.
So, those are the books that I've bought and collected recently, and I'm beyond excited to read them and let you all know my thoughts. The Man Booker longlist is one that I hope to read more of soon too so I'll update as I go.
In the meantime, happy reading!
