Best Book I've Read This Year?
Do you ever come across books that seem like their marketing has been aimed specifically at YOU?!
That was this book for me - On the ebook cover, there was a quote from Jodi Picoult (perhaps my favourite author) comparing it to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (a book I loved!)
Obviously I had to read it, and when I did I devoured it; a book that I thought about when I wasn't reading, wondering what the characters would do next. There were elements of social media added into the novel - something that is hard to do well, but Kimberly McCreight excelled at it.
I don't want to give anything away about this, but it's about a woman who has to piece together her daughter's life through clues found in her phone messages, emails and social media communications. This is alternated with chapters from the daughter's perspective. It touches on sexuality, bullying and friendship in a touching and realistic way.
It's suspenseful, dramatic and very well written from such different perspectives. It came out in 2013 and is the first of McCreight's that I've tried.
I will definitely be reading more . . .
